Artfully Incepted 2.0. A collaboration between Art and Music classes at SHS

22 May

During the first semester (2012) of Ms. Mosby’s Introduction to Piano class, students decided to tackle the recreation of the musical piece entitled “Time,” by Hans Zimmer which appeared during the closing scenes of the movie Inception.  At the same time, the students in Mrs. Contos Art class were studying the famous artist, Wassily Kandinsky. This artist painted various paintings that were all inspired by music, bright colors and various line forms.

The two teachers collaborated to create a project where the students could experience what Kandinsky meant when he expressed in his paintings and writings; the belief that painting could be a form of visual music.  Piano students listen to, analyzed and wrote out the instrumental parts composed by Zimmer then recorded their version using the instrumental sounds available to them on the class keyboards, while the Art students created works of art inspired by the music.

This video was created to showcase the combined artwork and musical performance of the students.
